The Play It Forward Challenge
This year long challenge has been launched by Voiceless Children a grassroots organization registered in the USA. Voiceless Children is dedicated to providing community and individual support to the Grandmother families affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The Purpose of Play It Forward
The purpose of "Play It Forward" is to arouse awareness and support to the Grandmother raised families in Africa. We will be using the documentary "A Grandmothers Tribe" produced by Borderless Productions of New Zealand, to help bring this awareness to the public. The idea is to show the film to a small or large group, at a pot luck dinner, a club meeting, church group, or a simple gathering of friends and family. Screening events can be any size for example; a small group may be inspired to host a yard sale, have a bake sale or simply contribute toward the support of the Grandmother families as a result of the showing. All events small or large will contribute to the shared income.
The Film
A Grandmothers Tribe tells the story of two remarkable Kenyan grandmothers who find themselves raising their AIDS orphaned grandchildren. Most of these women have lost all of their children to the pandemic. The film brings an unobstructed lens into the lives of an urban and village grandmother and the children in their care. It is the story of courage and love, but most of all it is the story of hope.
The Idea Behind PIF
The idea behind the Play It Forward Challenge is to get the film to all 50 states. After the person in that state has a showing, they pass it on to an interested party in that state for another fund raising viewing. By December 2009, the group that has raised the most funding for the Grandmother families will have a special guest along with updates on how your contributions have made a difference in the lives of these grandmother families.
How to Get Started
Now that you have decided to have an event, you can request a copy of the film, without charge, from Susie Banfield USA Director at voicelessfelix@aol.com. You will then receive the documentary along with instructions on registering the event. The documentary is one of hope and inspiration, and the Grandmothers believe that the most important thing they can do for these grandchildren is to see that they are educated. With help from you, their dream can be realized.
This is a challenge of the heart. We believe that each person can make a positive change in the world. Together, we can create a wave of loving change. We hope you will join us!
